I am going to outline my education and some of my professional activities
and publications below. I have a degree in Geological Engineering
followed by post-graduate degrees in Civil Engineering. I have always
liked rocks and rock formations and I progressed into looking at fractures
in rocks. I went underground in gold mines and potash mines, but I did
not want to spend my life down there. I moved onto writing software
and doing computer analyses of cracks in rocks during my PhD studies.
After finishing my PhD, I came to Cornell and started working on simulating
hydraulic fracturing. Now, I am essentially only working with
fractures in metallic parts, mostly in turbo-machinery. I work on
software development, simulation of crack growth, computer system
maintenance and administration...and whatever else needs to be done. Ithaca is a great place for a geology field trip. Prof. Terry Engelder, introduced us to some natural hydraulic fractures; I have some photos that I took - some of which I used in a conference proceeding, called "Modeling Ithaca’s Natural Hydraulic Fractures". I have put together a set of introductory slides based on some of our work and research interests. At one time, I did interview for faculty positions, but have long ago decided to stay in industry/consulting/research. I will add some links here - just so you know I do have other interests.
